Experience in Helping

My Name is Audrey Buxton. I’m a senior at Glendale High School. I have wanted to be a dentist for quite some time, and I hoped to start pursuing that dream with some first-hand experience.

The Ronald McDonald Care Mobile seemed like a great place to have some exposure to the field and also help children at the same time. The staff has been fantastic at letting me shadow the procedures and explaining to me what I should be ready for in dental school.

As the volunteer, my job is to clean instruments, confirm appointments, escort students to and from the Ronald McDonald Care Mobile, and basically whatever I can do to be helpful to the team. I have been so impressed by the dental work that is performed by the staff. In fact, just today Dr. Craig and Laura performed a root canal on a middle-school aged girl. I expected her to come out of the exam room not feeling well, but instead she was beaming! Her front tooth that had been severely chipped was now also fixed. Not only did her appearance dramatically improve, but she looked so happy! I hope to experience moments like these for myself when I become a dentist.

I am so grateful for the opportunity to work on the Ronald McDonald Care Mobile, and I am proud that Springfield, Missouri, has such a fine team of caring professionals who are making a difference in children’s lives. Thanks to the staff for helping me get involved and fuelling my interest even more in the field!
