American Hospital Association Honors RMHC

At RMHC, we aren’t physicians, but we know that our programs and services are deeply engrained within the fabric of quality care.

Research shows that health outcomes improve when the whole family is included in a child’s treatment plan, and that holistic, compassionate care benefits not only the child’s health but his ongoing behavior. RMHC helps enable families to stay together when their child is in the hospital – to be part of the child’s care.

This May, RMHC was recognized by the American Hospital Association (AHA) for this exact reason. The AHA gave RMHC its Award of Honor for our efforts to improve the health and wellness of children and for our contribution to the model of family-centered care.

The award, presented at the AHA’s Annual Membership Meeting on May 7, is given to organizations and individuals in recognition of exemplary contributions to the health care community through leadership on major health policies or social initiatives.

“RMHC understands that, for a child, family is the best medicine,” said AHA President and CEO Rich Umbdenstock. “By providing a ‘home-away-from-home,’ Ronald McDonald Houses allow families to make the health care journey with their children, while lifting the burden of where to stay and how to find their own rest. The AHA is pleased to honor RMHC for providing comfort and support to families and children when they need it most.”

With 175 Ronald McDonald Houses and 93 in-hospital Ronald McDonald Family Rooms throughout the U.S., families have the opportunity to be a part of their child’s treatment plan at all times. Additionally, with 38 Ronald McDonald Care Mobile programs, offering medical, dental and health education services to vulnerable children in their neighborhoods, RMHC is helping to bridge the gap in access to care.

RMHC is honored to join previous Award of Honor recipients like The Center to Advance Palliative Care, The Institute for Safe Medication Practices and Habitat for Humanity. And RMHC graciously thanks the American Hospital Association for this distinction.
