Kay's Legacy

How do you want to be remembered? What actions, words and memories will most prominently define your life?

For Kay, she wants people to know that she is a farmer’s daughter – dedicated and in love with the land in western Iowa on which she was raised and which she now manages. But she also wants to be remembered for her charitable contributions, in particular, her support of RMHC.

Although Kay spent her adult career teaching and counseling in elementary schools, she now oversees the management of her family’s corn fields in Iowa. Now retired, Kay’s hands are occupied more by her garden than by lesson plans or farming, but she still exudes the practical and resolute characteristics of someone familiar with a hard day’s work and a sound investment.

A few years ago, as she settled into retirement, her financial advisor assured her that she could now comfortably afford many long awaited and cherished dreams. While she may have been tempted to spend it all, she reflected on the needs of children and realized that she wanted a more rewarding way to allocate her savings. She chose to give to RMHC because of the comfort and care provided to a friend’s family at the Ronald McDonald House in Denver many years ago.

Kay has committed to manage her family’s assets with a charitable focus and to include RMHC in her estate plans. She has committed to provide hope for children battling illnesses; support and stability for the parents, siblings, and grandparents of a sick child; access to health care for children in vulnerable communities; a chance for students to fulfill their dreams of a higher education; and a memorial of her friend’s granddaughter. A friend that traveled from Iowa to Colorado to be close by her beloved granddaughter, Emma, while she fought, but ultimately lost her battle with cancer.

Kay is proud to share her story and hopes that it will inspire others to think about the difference they can make with a legacy gift in support of RMHC.
