Meet Carl Lewis
Carl Lewis needed determination and a team of supporters, coaches, and trainers to help him win nine Olympic gold medals. He understands that overcoming any challenge takes a team. And when children are sick, having family close by for support is their ‘all star team’.
“I’m constantly amazed by all that RMHC does to help children and families,” said Lewis. “It’s an invaluable resource for families during such difficult times and having family close by makes a big difference in the healing process of any child undergoing treatment for an illness.”
As a long-time supporter of youth causes, Carl had the opportunity to experience what RMHC is all about when he visited with families staying at the Ronald McDonald House in Cincinnati, Ohio. While he was there, Carl spent time talking with the parents and kids, and was touched by the personal stories they shared with him. It’s those personal stories of triumph that have motivated Carl to continue to support and learn more about the RMHC.
“I remember speaking with one man named Tommy, a father and runner who lost his daughter to cancer several years ago while staying at a Ronald McDonald House in New York. After she died, he decided to run over 2000 miles to help raise money for RMHC, running from Maine to Florida. His story was truly inspirational. Tommy is just one of many amazing people I have met who have been impacted by RMHC.”
Today, Carl continues to actively support the Charity through his role as a Celebrity Friend of RMHC - an extension of the Charity’s existing Friends of RMHC volunteer program. “I am honored to be a Friend of RMHC. This Charity has done so much for so many, which only reaffirms my commitment to help raise awareness of RMHC and create a greater understanding of what these programs do to help children facing the scariest situation of their life. More importantly I hope people are inspired – to get involved by volunteering or donating to this worthy cause.”
