Six of us Together to Help Elizabeth Recover
At such a young age, Elizabeth has been through a lot, from brain tumors to a spinal cord injury.
After an arduous recovery from brain surgery, she accidentally fell. She was left paralyzed and faced another year of rehab learning to walk in the hospital alone, far from home.
The family, still reeling from their family being apart while Elizabeth was treated for brain cancer, knew they all had to be together in order to survive – for Elizabeth and for each other.
The family of six, including Elizabeth, unpacked their bags at the Ronald McDonald House in Colorado Springs. While Elizabeth battled complications and intense therapy, she found strength from the undivided attention of her family.
“The support we received went beyond a warm meal, or comfortable bed,” said Alia, Elizabeth’s mom. “Everyone at the House saw us as the Bailey Family not just a family with a critically ill child. Elizabeth has a great sense of humor, Katie has dimples, Shane is an amazing helper, Garrett has the best giggle. Staff, families and volunteers got to know us as individual people, not just a cancer family. It provided a sense of normalcy and strength that we wouldn’t have otherwise gotten.”
And now, Elizabeth is well on her way to walking again. Thanks in large part to the expanded cheering section of her brothers, sisters, parents, and the House staff and volunteers, rooting for her every step of the way.

I loved this encouraging story, together with a group of professional women, who have experienced hospital life with their children intensively, we started a Ronald mc Donald House Chapter on the island of Curacao. We are starting renovation work in the next couple of weeks to be able to offer parents a comfortable place to stay close to their kids . The project is to be finalized early january 2012.
I will be thinking of Elizabeth and her family all through the project. It is these types of encouragements that give the motivation to not only start our project but make sure that it finfds it's continuity.
Please recieve my prayers and wishes for all the best for the whole family.

This is a touching story. My brother was a RMHC recipient about 20 years ago, and because of their assistance, unconditional love and attention he is able to speak clearly. THANKS
