Southwest Airlines Shows RMHC the LUV

Southwest Airlines has been a generous partner to RMHC for more than 28 years.

This relationship began because of a special Southwest pilot named Dick East. After losing his daughter to leukemia, Dick began volunteering at the Ronald McDonald House of Houston. Captain East was so touched by the House program, supportive staff and comprehensive services that he started to recruit other Southwest employees to join him in his volunteer efforts.

Soon enough, Dick introduced the Charity to the President and Chairman of the Board of Southwest Airlines. Amazed by the loving environment and experience of Ronald McDonald Houses, Southwest officially named the Ronald McDonald House program their primary corporate charity.

This year also marks the 26th anniversary of Southwest’s signature fundraiser, the LUV Classic Golf Tournament and Party. The event is held every year and proceeds go to Ronald McDonald Houses in cities that the airline serves. Over the years the fundraiser has raised more than $12.5 million.
